Starting with Mac OS X 10.6 it is now possible to connect to a Cisco IPSec VPN without having to download any extra software.

Main Set Up Steps

Before you begin please have your VPN’s IP address, your username, password, shared secret, certificate, and/or group name ready. If you do not have this information please contact support using the options at the bottom of this page or by visiting http://www.liquidweb.com/support.

Open System Preferences and click on the Network icon:

On the Network screen, click on the + symbol in the lower left:

On the following screen click on the Interface drop-down menu and choose VPN:

Click on the VPN Type menu and choose Cisco IPSec:

Give your new VPN connection a label in the Service Name text field (1) (this can be any name you choose) and click Create (2):

Back on the main Network screen, click on your new VPN name in the list on the left side. Enter your VPN server’s IP address, your user name (Account Name), and password:

If you leave the checkbox marked Show VPN status in the menu bar checked a new menubar icon will appears that allows you quickly turn the VPN connection on and off.

Click on the Authentication Settings button and enter the VPN’s Shared Secret, Certificate, and/or Group Name. Click OK when done:

Depending on your network and VPN configuration you may now start using your new VPN connection. If you need to add settings for DNS servers or Proxies when using the VPN please see the screenshots below for reference.

Download Cisco AnyConnect VPN client for Mac OS X

First Download Cisco AnyConnect VPN client for mac from the link below:

When the download process is complete, open your Downloads folder and double-click the AnyConnect dmg file.

Step 1

Install Cisco AnyConnect VPN client for Mac OS X

Double click on AnyConnect.

If you see the message: “This package will run a program to determine if the software can be installed”, Click on “Continue”.

Click on “Continue”.

Now, in this window click on “Continue”.

Click on “Agree”.

Check the “VPN” and click “Continue”.

Now click on “Install” and enter your computer username and password when prompted. (NOTE: the user must be an administrator of the machine to install).

When installation complete click “Close”.

Step 2

Configure Cisco AnyConnect VPN client Mac

Cisco AnyConnect VPN client can be found in the Cisco folder located in the Application folder.
Navigate to /Applications/Cisco/ and open “Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client“.

In the text box enter one of SaturnVPN servers addresses, you can see the list of Cisco AnyConnect VPN server addresseshere.

If you get a message “Untrusted VPN server blocked”, click on “Change Setting”.

Uncheck “Block connection to untrusted servers”, then click on “Connect” again.
Please note it’s not a security issue! It’s just a software misconfiguration.
