Latest Sharepoint Sync Client For Mac

The previous OneDrive for Business sync client lets users sync their OneDrive for Business library, or SharePoint or Office 365 team site libraries, to their local computer. Here you can find the Click-to-Run installers for all supported languages of the previous OneDrive for Business sync client (groove.exe).

Notes:

You can use Microsoft Document Connection (included in Office 2011) to access files on a SharePoint site. This application is similar to SharePoint Workspace 2010 on Windows, and works as a middleman between the SharePoint site and the other Office applications on your Mac. The new OneDrive sync client lets you sync files from your OneDrive for Business and even from SharePoint sites if your admin enabled it. (If you're the IT admin for your organization, see Enable users to sync SharePoint files with the new OneDrive sync client.) Note: The new OneDrive sync client. If you're the IT admin for your organization, see Enable users to sync SharePoint files with the new OneDrive sync client. If you're not the IT admin, and your screens don't look like the ones in this article, see Sync SharePoint files with the OneDrive for Business sync client (Groove.exe) or contact your IT department.

  • This article is not intended for the current version of OneDrive (onedrive.exe). This article only applies to the previous OneDrive (groove.exe). In most cases, we recommend that you use onedrive.exe rather than groove.exe. For more information about the current version, see Sync files with the OneDrive sync client in Windows.

  • To determine which OneDrive sync client you're using, see Which version of OneDrive am I using?

If you have any Office 2016 application installed, such as Skype for Business 2016, you must have the 2016 version of OneDrive for Business installed (see instructions below).

Notes:

  • Office 2019 uses the onedrive.exe version, which is bundled with the software.

  • If you run OneDrive for Business with Office 2010, we recommend that you remove the SharePoint Workspace component from Office 2010. If you have a business requirement to run both SharePoint Workspace and OneDrive for Business, upgrade Office 2010 to Service Pack 2 (SP2) before you install OneDrive for Business. This provides the best compatibility.

  • If you run OneDrive for Business on a Mac, see Sync files with the OneDrive sync client on Mac OS X.

  • For complete system requirements info, see System requirements for Office.

    cd /d %userprofile%desktop setup.exe /configure AddODB.txt

    Notes:

    • The installation occurs silently in the background and can take 20 minutes or more to complete, depending on the speed of your Internet connection. Don't close the Command Prompt window during the installation.

    • When the installation is completed, a new command line appears at the command prompt.

  6. Select Start. In the Start Search box, type OneDrive for Business, and then start OneDrive for Business.

Note: After you set up OneDrive for Business, you may not see the sync icon overlays (that is, the green check marks or red crosses) on files and folders. You must restart your computer to enable the sync icon overlays to reappear.

  7. Close the command prompt. You can now safely delete the following files from your desktop:

    • OfficeDeploymentTool.exe

    • Setup.exe

    • Configuration.xml

    • AddODB.txt

This article is for IT administrators in large organizations who want to enable users in their organizations to sync SharePoint Online team sites with the new OneDrive sync client. Smaller organizations and organizations that are new to Office 365 are already set up to sync OneDrive and SharePoint files with the new OneDrive sync client.

When you enable this feature, users will be able to sync the files in a SharePoint Online team site to their PCs and Macs using the OneDrive sync client (OneDrive.exe). As part of this, they will be able to:

  • Browse to a SharePoint Online site or shared folder and click Sync to sync all contents in the document library or only selected folders that are important to them.

  • Change the folders they sync directly from their PC or Mac.

  • Sync shared folders.

  • Sync read-only files and folders.

  • Coauthor files in real time with Office 2016 (C2R build 16.0.7167.2xxx or MSI build 16.0.4432.100x)

  • Automatically transition from the existing OneDrive for Business sync client (Groove.exe)

Set SharePoint to sync with the OneDrive sync client

Sharepoint On Mac

  1. Sign in to https://admin.microsoft.com as a global or SharePoint admin to open the Microsoft 365 admin center. (If you see a message that you don't have permission to access the page, you don't have Office 365 administrator permissions in your organization.)

    Note

If you have Office 365 Germany, sign in at https://portal.office.de. If you have Office 365 operated by 21Vianet (China), sign in at https://login.partner.microsoftonline.cn/. Then select the Admin tile to open the admin center.

  2. In the left pane of the admin center, under Admin centers, select SharePoint to open the SharePoint admin center. (You might need to select Show all to see the list of admin centers.) If the classic SharePoint admin center appears, select Open it now at the top of the page to open the new SharePoint admin center.

  3. In the left pane, select Settings, and then select classic settings page.

  4. Make sure 'OneDrive Sync Button' is set to 'Show the Sync button.'

To sync SharePoint files with the new client, you must also sync OneDrive files with the new client.

  5. For 'Sync Client for SharePoint,' select Start the new client.

    Note

If you don't see the 'Sync Client for SharePoint' setting on the Settings page, your organization is already set up to use the new OneDrive sync client. When users sign in to the OneDrive sync client (OneDrive.exe), it will automatically take over syncing the site libraries that the previous new OneDrive sync client sync client (Groove.exe) was syncing. For information about how this works, and about the types of libraries that will continue syncing with the previous sync client, see Transition from the previous OneDrive for Business sync client.

  6. Select OK.

These changes take several hours to propagate. To check that they've propagated, go to a SharePoint Online site and select Sync. In the browser dialog box that confirms the request to open a program, the 'Program' should appear as 'Microsoft OneDrive' and the 'Address' should start with 'odopen://'
